Product Review: Easy-Off Fume Free Oven Cleaner

When I made the apple pie on the 24th of December for our Christmas dessert, some of the bubbles during the cooking got into the bottom of the oven even though I did put a piece of foil on the bottom rack to catch the bubble. I only discovered this the following day (25th) when I stuck the pan of mussels to bake for the appetizers. Good thing I only had to bake the mussels for less than 10 minutes coz the oven was just not having a good day. The smoke alarm drove everybody crazy that’s for sure.

easy-off-fume-free-oven-cleaner2 I still had to cook the green beans casserole for our side dish and let’s just say it was a miracle the dish cooked without me burning the house down. See, the bubbles from the apple pie the night before were hardened overnight of course, plus the 5 months worth of oven whatchamacallits. This is the embarrassing part, I haven’t cleaned the oven since we moved here in August ‘09. Everything was clean when we moved so yah know oven-cleaning haven’t been on top of my list. I guess in a way it was a blessing in disguise that the oven was smoky on Christmas day 😆 .

Instead of the regular Easy-Off Heavy Duty Oven Cleaner which I use to clean the oven when we’re moving houses, Hubs grabbed this Fume Free version. I sprayed the oven before I went to bed (11:30pm) and just let the Easy-Off magic work overnight. I like the lemon scent when I first sprayed it, and then I loved it even more when the initial white foam disappeared after touching the surface of the oven without choking the life out of me. I woke up the next day, did a little bit of work, had my 30 minute work-out, then I opened the oven and started wiping the grimes off with a wet dishcloth. I washed it off a few times and repeatedly wiped the inside of the oven. I used a sponge too just for a double-wiping technique. Everything came off easily. There was no strong fumes coming out of the oven. I was able to clean the whole thing up, including the racks in a short amount of time coz I didn’t have to stop go to a corner to breathe. I also sprayed a few spots with the Easy-Off to really get a hard grime off, scrubbed it and voila, it was off. I prefer Easy-Off Fume Free better than the Heavy-Duty. I guess the latter is good if your oven is really really dirty. Even though I haven’t cleaned mine in 5 months, I think it was still good, 🙂 . I got an A+ from the Hubs when he saw how clean the oven is now, 😀 .

A 16oz bottle is about $6, sold at any grocery stores.
