Cooking With Kids: Homemade Mini-Pizzas

Whenever Emma and I are bonding together in the kitchen it’s mostly for baking desserts. The girl loves to bake cookies, cakes, cupcakes, and pies. Basically anything that’s sweet. Can’t hardly blame her, no? A few weeks ago a blogger friend suggested making pizza with your kids which I thought would be our next cooking project. Pizza is after all in the top tier of Emma’s food groups. I have made pizzas before of course but it never occurred to me that we could actually make mini-pizzas together too.

Before we go through the process let me just point out that we used homemade dough in our pizzas. I was going to make bread a few weeks ago until I remembered that my oven wasn’t working coz the element burnt out or something so Scott took it out then ordered a replacement. I ended up freezing the bread dough thinking I’d bake it once the oven is working again. Once Scott replaced it and everything I didn’t feel like making bread anymore so we used it for our mini-pizzas. You could always just buy the pre-made pizza dough from any grocery store. It is up to you. I will still leave the link to the recipe of the homemade dough if you prefer it that way.

Recipe: Cooking With Kids: Homemade Mini-Pizzas

  • dough (buy pre-made or make your own)
  • pizza sauce
  • pepperoni
  • pineapple chunks
  • ham slices
  • 1 pack of shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2-3 button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 3-5 cherry tomatoes (sliced)
  • drizzle of olive oil
  • sprinkle of Italian seasoning
  • cooking oil spray

  1. Make your dough(if you prefer) by following the instructions from this recipe link. Stop at step number 6. This dough recipe should make 7-8 mini-pizzas.
  2. Prepare your toppings ala mise en place. In separate bowls, sprinkle olive oil and Italian seasonings on sliced mushrooms and cherry tomatoes.
  3. After the dough rises, divide it in mini balls, then sprinkle flour in a flat surface to roll your dough. Roll it flat and thinly. Spray your pizza pan/cookie sheet pans with cooking oil spray. Carefully place the rolled pizza dough in them.
  4. Assemble your pizzas. Sauce first, cheese, then the toppings.
  5. Preheat the oven to 355°. Bake your pizzas for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly.

Of course, you can choose whatever toppings you want.

Emma wanted an X of pepperoni so she made one.

Enjoy with a side of salad(and a glass of wine for Mommy).
