All You Need Is Wine Unless You’re Allergic

Wine, I love it. I scoff at “National Wine Day” because as far as I’m concerned, it’s wine day every day. I mean, really! Granted I usually just drink wine on Friday and Saturday nights, and the occasional glass of wine with dinner if I feel like it or the dish calls for it. I’m very particular about my wine choices though. I prefer red and dry. I don’t like sweet wine at all but I won’t mind drinking a glass at parties just to be social.

My father-in-law loves sweet wine though. Specifically Moscato. Whenever they come for a visit he buys a bottle of his own to drink while staying with us. My in-laws were here a few weeks ago so he got himself a bottle of Mia Dolcea moscato. He wasn’t able to finish the whole thing so I thought I’d might as well drink it before I wash the bottle and save for decor. It’s a pretty blue bottle after all.

It turns out I have another reason not to drink sweet wine. A couple of sips of this Moscato and I got hives. I started getting itchy all over my neck, hands, and arms. I went to google(of course) and it turns out there are people out there who experienced hives after drinking Moscato. I remembered the few times the same thing happened. I took an allergy pill right away. By the time I went to bed the redness from my neck disappeared but I still had red marks in my body. I woke up fine thankfully but I’d definitely continue not to drink sweet wine. I drank my usual Merlot this past weekend and I was completely fine.

I’ve always answered “not that I know of” every time I’m asked if I’m allergic to anything. Well now I do and the good thing is I never liked it in the first place.
