Get To Know Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo Through Her Advocacy

The more I get to know the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo by scrolling through her Instagram feed and reading about her advocacy, the more I like her. She’s beautiful and very well-spoken that’s for sure. Her eyes are the first things I’ve noticed about her. You can see sincerity and a quiet warrior through her eyes. With her win as the Miss Universe Philippines 2020, I reckon that quietness is about to go on full blast.

Even before she successfully strutted her stuff on the stage of Miss Universe Philippines last week, Rabiya has been the best representative of Miss Iloilo by amplifying the needs of her kababayans. She introduced the program BULIG which means HELP in Hiligaynon to call for PPEs for health workers and pedicab drivers.

While some of us are thinking what movie we should watch or what book to read, we have brothers and sister out there who worry where to find food and how to feed their family for the rest of the day. While this lockdown is something that our community needs to flatten the curve, unfortunately, a lot of people doesnt have savings that will sustain them for the rest of the month like our Pedicab drivers. We don't even know maybe some of them might have sick parents or newborn infants that needs enough nutrition and attention. BULIG means HELP in Hiligaynon. If you're gonna ask me what is essence of HUMANITY, I love to believe we nurture life in this world. That in the most difficult time, we can still help and stand for one another and this unity, it is the purest form of love that we have for each other and this is something to celebrate and be proud of. For those who are willing to donate, please see the information printed above. For more questions, you can send me or @aprildehyde a personal message. #checkyourprivilege

She collaborated with local organizations to cook for the frontliners.

During this quarantine period, I realized that I am beyond blessed to have a roof on top of my head, that I can eat three times a day and I am safe together with my family inside our home but I can't stop asking myself, "What else can I do to help my community? What can I do for Ilonggo frontliners?" I've been working with several organizations and local charitable institutions already here Iloilo to collect for monetary donations for the benefit of our frontliners and pedicab drivers but I wanted to be more involved and to do something personal for our amazing heroes. Yesterday, together with the help of Miss Primrose and Sir Lars of Lars Buko Batchoy, we were able to cook and prepare meals good for 50 persons with a budget of less than PHP 700( Yes, you don't need a big amount of money to help. All you need is initiative and the right kind of people.) The food was given to the Radiologic Department of Iloilo Doctors' Hospital. NEXT TARGET: Meal good for 100 pax PS, I used to be really shy to post my volunteer work on social media since the start of tge quarantine period but then I realized that it is really a powerful tool and you'll never know who will be inspired with your simple ways and actions. #batoiloilo

She worked with Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry to make PPEs for frontliners.

PPEs FOR OUR ILONGGO FRONTLINERS First, I just want to thank the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Iloilo Chapter for donating the raw materials needed to make PPEs such as banner cloth, garter, etc. and Iloilo Unified Hazmat Volunteers for your daily efforts to produce PPEs for our frontliners. Some of them are actually students from ISAT-U who weren't able to go home because of the lockdown. Imagine being alone in the city without any family member around you during this pandemic ut what amazes me is they chose to have the courage to help their community. Kudos guys!!! Earlier today, we were able to deliver the second batch of PPEs to the different hospitals here in Iloilo City. Nakakataba ng puso makita ang ciudad mo na nagkakaisa para masugpo ang ano mang problemang kinakaharap ng bawat isa. Indeed, Iloilo is the City of Love.❤️💜💙 Disclaimer: The pose that we had on the last photo stands for "Bató, Iloilo!" (Laban,Iloilo!). 😉 #BatoIloilo

She spearheaded a food donation drive for the people of Brgy. Ortiz, City Proper.

She repacked donations for the residents of Brgy. Nabitasan, Lapaz, Iloilo City.

And as her first duty as official Miss Universe Philippines 2020, Rabiya is working with E-Skwela Project of Frontrow whose aim is to provide educational computers with free internet access and printers for the students. Rabiya considers this a destiny because of her own experience and humble beginnings. Keep up the good work, Rabiya!

Do you believe in destiny? I was amazed to go back to where I stayed for two years when I was still working as a lecturer in a review center in Josefina St., Sampaloc, Manila on my official first day as Miss Universe PH. I am honored to be part of E-Skwela Project of Frontrow that aims to provide educational computers with free internet access and printers for the students of the said barangay. As somebody who saw and experienced the hardships of life, I would always tell everybody that my education helped me to reach all the good things in life and I want every child to experience such thing. Always remember that we can change the world, one child at a time. #missuniversephilippines #aribarabiya #halabirabiya
