This meme has been going around for awhile among the Filipino bloggers. I’ve been meaning to write my own even though no one has technically tagged me. Nevertheless, I’ll take it upon myself to write one
. I’m not going to be poetic or too sentimental. I’m going to be succint and get to the point. BUT, just a warning, my 3rd one might not be so politcally correct for non-Filipinos but this is how I feel and I’m entitled to get it out of my system in my ownh blog, right? Alrighty then. let’s get on with the show.
My 3 reasons why I’m Proud To Be Pinoy:
1. Pinoys will eat anything. Well, at least try something once
. We’ll come up with dishes using ingredients no one would ever think of using. We’re good like that.
2. Pinoys support fellow pinoys. Trust me, if there is a Filipino in a reality show, we will vote for him/her. If not a pinoy, but an Asian one? Chances are we will vote for the Asian guy. LOL. For example, the recently concluded Miss Universe. Ms. Philippines won the Ms. Photogenic award. How was the winner determined? Votes online and texts(I think). Philippines is the text capital of the world, you damn right all the Filipinos voted for her. Why do you think Cheryl Burke won twice, back-to-back in Dancing W/ The Stars? She is AWESOME but trust me, her being Pinoy has something to do with it as well. Except this 3rd one she was outvoted coz Ian wasn’t really cutting it. Jasmine Trias? Hawaiian’s weren’t the only one populating the Idol’s phone lines. Filipinos did that. She was in Top 3.
Why do you think I’m not jealous of Nicole from The PussyCat Dolls? If that was another gyrating pop star I would be like, “whatever”. It turns out, Nicole is half(or is it 1/4) Filipina, hence, I love her, heh.
Like my sister Lanie and I always declare, with our fists up in the in air : LET’S DO IT FOR THE PIPOLS, YO!
3. This is actually so appropriate with the upcoming Presidential election. Much have said about the Immigration issue here in the US. Mostly, about the Hispanics. This is a sore subject for me. I talked to my Father-in-Law about it when they were here for a visit. My husband and I are always discussing it. FYI, we’re all in the same side. Which is it? Well, let me just start with the fact the Filipinos wait for years for their Visas to be approved. They pay a lot of money for the process. Once they get here, they adapt to their new homeland. Meaning, we speak the language. We don’t need translators. We become one of the American’s(or other countries) while maintaining our own heritage. We will partake in any American(or any countries) dishes that’s put in front of us, hence the #1 reason, but trust me, we will bring our own Filipino dishes and will share them to anyone interested. As much as it drives me crazy to hear accents from my fellow Pinoys, I’m proud of them and proud to be a Pinoy coz at least we are trying. You can speak to us, we could communicate and have a good ‘ol conversation, and we sure don’t use our kids to talk for us.
The Immigration issue is a sore subject for me as I intimated above because my Dad’s papers were approved a year after my mother died. He waited for almost 20 years. My Uncle who served in the US Navy as soon as he turned 19 worked and waited on that approval for freaking 20 years. But there are people jumping over a damn border without even trying to learn the language. Not to mention follow the Law. That just burns me.
Before I completely turn red, I’ll end this now. Here are some bloggers I’ve read so far who’ve listed their reasons of being proud to be Pinoy.

I’m tagging all the Mothers at PMN.

On #3 : You hit the nail on the head with this one, Feistymomma! You are sooo right! It is very unfair indeed that Filipinos who speak the language and adapt really well to the environment had to jump through hoops on the path to citizenship. While others who cannot speak the language and wave their own flags at rallies have the nerve to say that immigration for them is unfair? geesh!
Tamang-tama ka sa #1! Our food tastes better than everyone else’s.
Ha! If they had paired Cheryl with Apolo, she would have received her 3peat!
We should always be proud of what we are as a person. We Pinoys are becoming citizens of the world, this thing is fact. When our country cannot provide jobs for its citizens the main thing that drives us away is basically survival reasons. It wouldnt take away the fact that what we are, how we speak, how we think and how we treat others …we all learned from our country and that is something we should always be proud of wherever we are .Saan man sulok ng mundo ka mapadpad we are still a PILIPINO and we all should be proud of it!
All your points are very true. My sister (i have two sisters in San Francisco) entered the US on a working visa as an Architect in 1984. Now she serves the city council with her knowledge in Architecture and city planning. My sisters speak English with an American accent easily shifting with the Tagalog. They easily adapted to the American culture.

Rico, oh definitely. Nothing beats adobo and lechon
Mare, yup. How much do you bet Pinoys voted for Apolo after Cheryl was booted out?..LOL. Asian people are awesome..hehe. Apolo was good though so yeah I’d give him credit
Betty, True
Noemi, i’m the same way. Bulol sa tagalog minsan but I’m still there
Yup.. goooo pinoys!
I’m glad Miss Philippines got Best Photogenic. I wanted her to be at least in the top 15 though! I’d like to see what criterias are used to select the top 15.
Can’t believe Miss U.S.A. fell on her behind! Poor girl. She still made it to the top 5 though, which doesn’t surprise me at all.
Ayen, from the preliminary judging. interviews, swimsuit and gown as well i think.
