I’m Officially Inked

After years of thinking about it, wishing for it, and eventually not doing it, I finally got myself inked. Yup, I am now a tattooed woman . A couple of months ago my husband asked what I wanted for my birthday. I couldn’t really think of one I really really like that I know wouldn’t put us in debt, heh. I know I want either a Chanel or Louis Vuitton bag but I wanted to get those bags myself. I just need to wait a little bit longer. So I said, “I want a tattoo”. He said, “OK.” He probably thought I was going to change my mind once my birthday came but I didn’t. I stuck to it and yesterday, 2 days after my birthday, I got my butterfly with initials tattoo.

I know I wanted a blue butterfly coz blue is my favorite color and I love butterflies as most of you know. I also wanted to get our initials, S for Scott, D for Dexie, C for Caine and E for Emma. My husband already has our initials tattoo on his arm so I figured it’s my turn.

I actually brought in a picture of the blue butterfly that I wanted but when perusing the designs that the Tattoo place has, my son pointed this butterfly out to me. It was like a black silhouette which is really beautiful. I told my tattoo artist I wanted blue in it. Then he showed me the stencil of the whole design and I fell in love with the script font he used for the initials. Hubs liked them too.

I went inside the room, with an Opeth album (Damnation) playing which was actually soothing. I told him it was my first time, he asked if I was nervous and I said “yeahhh”, but he assured me it would be ok. I believed him . Scott stayed in the room to see my reaction for the initial outline. I covered myself with my jacket and held onto my purse as tight as I could. I couldn’t hold my husband’s hands since he was carrying our daughter. I think he thought I was going to scream but I was a tough girl. I psyched myself up before that needle touched my skin. I’ve had 2 babies, a tattoo is chicken feed. And it was, hehe. Hubs took the kids to Wal-Greens while I got my tattoo so they’d be entertained. I on the other hand kept my face covered with my jacket. I peaked once in a while to see progress in my tattoo. Every time it felt like the needle was digging through, I was making painful facial expressions underneath my jacket. Whenever he stopped, I peaked, but as soon as he picked the needle back up, I covered my face again. I just couldn’t look at that damn needle. Underneath my jacket I was telling myself, “well isn’t this ironic” . The tattoo didn’t take that long. Definitely less than an hour. I’ve finally discovered that getting a tattoo is not that bad at all. It’s not that painful as I thought it was going to be. It was more of an annoyance when you feel that needle digging through. But once you see the end result you’d be smiling from ear to ear coz it’s a sight to behold, . I’m happy to say it’s not a small tattoo. It’s actually as big as an iPod Nano 3rd generation. So you know, I didn’t wuzz out, hehe.

And as the tattoo cliché goes, once you get one, you’ll want another one. It’s true coz after getting my first tattoo I told my husband I want another one in maybe 6 months or so. I already have a design in mind so now I’ll just have to wait patiently, .

BTW, the red part is just blood. It will go away in a few days and the blue colors will be brighter. I’ll take pictures once it’s completely healed which should be in about a month or so.
