Our Living Room

Finally, I have time to show off our living room . It took a while coz we had to give our small space living room a much needed makeover. We bought new couches to replace a grey leather sectional and also had to find an affordable but functional TV Stand. A little bit of compromise had to be done too on the TV stand coz I wanted a book-shelf style Entertainment center while Hubs want a simple TV Stand with compartments for DVD’s and other stuff. I was really being unreasonable with my choice coz the thing is, our living room is not that big. A huge entertainment center would pretty much cover half of the floor. So Hubby won.

One of the reasons why there was a delay in giving this living room a makeover is  because of wall decors. I had such a hard time finding a  floral painting that would match the wooden floors. I was dead set on the floral scheme in the living which made it so difficult to find just the right colors that wouldn’t look so loud with the floor. We may have many choices when it comes to decorating walls but everything has to blend in nicely. Maintaining the natural tone with flowers proved to quite such a task, heh. I’m not an interior designer so it took me a while to figure things out and find the right pieces within my budget.

The TV Stand opens up as a DVD storage. A very clever way to put everything in place and neatly organized, don’t you think?  The scroll on the wall is from Korea by the way.

We used to have a grey leather sectional. Yeah, imagine the grey color with the floor. Acccck. It was an eyesore. We’ve always planned on getting a new set anyway so last month was as good as any. Picking the couch wasn’t difficult at all. We walked into  a furniture store on Feb 1st and saw the set the we like right away. We kept on checking the store for more choices and even went to another furniture store but kept thinking about this brown microfiber couch and love seat set. This also comes with a recliner but because of the lack of space in our living room we decided to forget the recliner. It’s ok coz each corner of this loveseat and couch combo actually reclines. The thing in the middle of the loveseat has a compartment for remotes, holds 2 drinks and the sides rock.

The 2 brown throw pillows on the couch were picked by the Hubs. The one in the middle is from Kohl’s. The burgundy throw pillows with floral vines were were my picks. The swirly design on the throw rug actually matches the brown pillows. The pillows on the floor are our old ones that I thought would be good just to accent the floor, hehe. In the corner is a small desk with the laptop, plus a shelf with some of my books. I can work and watch TV at the same time if I need to. It helps a lot during award shows or if I had to work and do not want to miss my shows . I have to hang the painting in the wall one of these days . The frame above it says FAMILY and the mantle with a few knick knacks.  I found the large fan with floral print at the Oriental store in Raleigh. I actually bought it for my kitchen which has an Asian theme but moved it in the living room when I found a series glass frames that looked much better in the kitchen. The floral on the fan worked perfectly with the living room theme actually.

Well, that’s about it. Nothing extravagant but we like it. And I’m happy that we don’t have to figure out how to get and keep good credit to balance our financial situation since everything was paid in cash. Like I said, this living room makeover has been planned. I would like to have an ottoman coffee table in the middle but with the space we have plus a toddler who needs space to move around, it’s out of the question right now. Maybe someday when we have a much bigger place.
