What’s Your Favorite Chinese Takeout Dishes?
I just finished sweating by knocking out the Insanity Plyometric workout for the day. But here I am talking about the Chinese takeout we had for dinner last night. Well, I love food, that’s why I exercise. That makes sense, right? Anyhoooo, so while resizing the images last night, I realized that I was looking at the dishes we usually order when doing Chinese Takeout for dinner.
- House Specialty Fried Rice (shrimp, crab flakes, chicken, and pork)
- Sesame Chicken
- Boneless pork ribs barbeque
- Beef with Chinese Vegetables
- Crab Ragoon
- 2 sm extra white rice
The only dishes we didn’t order yesterday were shrimp stir-fry and hot & sour soup. Whether as individual orders or combos, these are pretty much what we usually partake on during our occasional Chinese takeout dinner. The funny thing is, with the exception of crab ragoon and boneless pork ribs barbeque, I can whip up the other dishes in my own kitchen any day if I want to. In fact, I have made my own versions of sesame chicken, hot and sour soup, different ways to make fried rice, beef stir-fry and shrimp stir-fry as well. I’m pretty sure I can make my own version of crab ragoon too.
So out of curiousity, when you pick up the phone to order Chinese Takeout, which dishes do you most usually pick from the menu?
Dessert Before Dinner
Because my son’s birthday happens to be on a Wednesday, a weekday, and the weekend with that would be a working weekend for my husband, we decided to celebrate in advance. We did it yesterday. And since we’re being advanced anyway, we though we might as well eat dessert before dinner. Hey why not? So we had cake and ice cream after a trip to the playground where the little girl and I stayed in the kiddie place while Scott and Caine played basketball. I think we were all so tired from playing that we attacked the cake and ice cream without even thinking dinner. It wasn’t after Caine blew the candles that Scott made a comment about we were having dessert before dinner.
The earth didn’t swallow us whole after devouring our dessert so I guess we’re good for right now
. I’ll write about more about what Caine received as gifts on the exact day he was born just so people don’t think I’ve forgotten to blog about my son’s birthday.
Saturday’s Dinner. This Is Life
They never had the chance, heh. I got the Spinach & Feta pizza for free from Domino’s Facebook promo. It’s pretty good. I’ll have to write more about it in my foodblog next week. Since I only got 1 free pizza and judging by the pictures and TV commercials I knew the pizza is really not that big, I made pork lo mein to go with it. Here’s a recipe of a beef version of the lo mein. Just replace beef with pork, and use baby carrots instead of broccoli, and add napa cabbage instead of shitake mushrooms.
For dessert, I made flan(no cream cheese). Bear in mind, I made it early on today to cool in the fridge for hours in time for after dinner dessert. Flan is always better after spending time in the fridge.
So what’s your Saturday Dinner?
I Love Winning An Argument, Don’t You?
It feels really good to win an argument. Especially an argument with someone who’s got a one-track mind most of the time. And someone as feisty as I am. It is such an accomplishment in my daily mundane life. Winning makes me feel like I’m worth every breath I take on this earth. Like the tuna-popcorn argument I had with my feisty daughter.
Ems: Mommy, tuna sandwich and popcorn.
Mom: Just tuna sandwich for lunch.
Ems: NO, tuna sandwich and popcorn, pleaassee..
Mom: STAR tuna sandwich.
Ems: STAR tuna sandwich??
Mom: YUP
Ems:
POINT 1 goes to Mommy!

Baking Chocolate Banana Cupcakes W/ Emma

Emma loves to bake. If it was up to her we’d be baking cookies, cakes, and cupcakes, everyday. But of course we can’t do that so we do it on the weekends. She definitely had fun with all the Holiday baking we did last year. Anyhooo, for Christmas, Nan and Pop gave her a Kid’s Cupcake Bake Set from Bed Bath and Beyond. The set came with apron, wooden mixing spoon, icing spreader, 5pc measuring spoons, 12 cup nonstick mini cupcakes pan, 1(24 count) mini cupcake liners, cupcake stand and vinyl carry bag.
We made mini chocolate banana cupcakes.

And regular sized ones too. BTW, I added chocolate chips on the recipe so the cupcakes are more decadent. And another thing, the cupcake bake set is currently on sale for $2.99. NICE!
Time To Get Busy
Pumpkin cheesecake is in the oven. YAY. I took pictures before I made a mess in my kitchen. And since that needs to cook for an hour and 10 minutes, I’m going to give my daughter a shower, before I sweep the floor, then make the cornbread casserole.
NOTE: finish the red velvet cake truffles.
PS: I hope everyone is more organized than I am.
