Next Week’s Agenda

- Get back to moderation diet. This week has been really bad for me.

- Combine Turbo Fire and Insanity again.

- Do the Thanksgiving Day list in Feistycook.

- Change the background in this blog. Well, I might do that in a bit.

- Finish the laundry.

- Clean up my desk.

- Crank up the Cricut for creative outlet. I need to do scrapbook and make cards, just because.

- Give my son a trim.

- Write a lot in Style & Flair, maybe change the theme too.

- I should really write some of my notices. At least the ones that aren’t expired yet.

- Join at least 1 blog meme.

- And go on with life, of course.

A New Look

I got the itch to change the look of this blog the other day after I gave my FilipinasInShowbiz.com a really pretty makeover. It took a while though to find a theme that I really like. I wanted something streamlined but with enough space in the sidebar. After working out, chores, kids, and while the braised chicken in wine dinner was simmering in the stove, I went about searching for a new theme. I found this from the same site I actually found the old theme. I like the old one but it was too busy and I just wanted something simple this time around.

Unfortunately, this theme didn’t come with a category menu so I had to use a menubar plugin which took me forever to figure out. Of course, it turned out to be as easy as scanning a box of cereal on usb barcode scanner at a grocery store cashier line. I was hitting myself once I finally had the light bulb moment. DU’H. Well, it’s finished now so I can go to sleep in a few minutes to get up early for our Yard Sale tomorrow morning. I sure hope it’s really not the end of the world on Friday.

But just in case, glad to have known all of you. I wish we could’ve had a chance to drink Tequila shots together. *Mwaaaah*

This PINAY Would Kick Your ASS, And Be Proud Of It!

fis-ss So I have this Filipino Showbiz blog which gets almost 5k views a day. FilipinasInShowbiz.com is my guilty pleasure. I used to be a snooty bitch about Pinoy Showbiz years ago until a celebrity named Marian Rivera came into my life. I liked a few Filipino celebrities before but I wasn’t as informed or dedicated to it until 2008 when I created the FilipinasInShowbiz.com as my outlet for anything that’s Marian Rivera. So of course I have a Twitter account (PinaysInShowbiz) for it as part of promotion and other things that’s related to social networking when running a blog.

In the middle of all the twittering going on about the Manny Pacquiao fight against Antonio Margarito, I checked the “Mentions” part of the Twitter account coz the dashboard was moving too fast and I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss any mentions from my 1400 followers. Imagine my surprise when I saw a tweet from a twitter named Jazz2Slick.

@PinaysInShowbiz nobody cares about that crap just stick with the pacquiao and margarito tweet all we wanna hear about is pacquiao

My first reaction was, who the hell is this guy telling me what not to Tweet about. Hellloooo? First of all the Twitter account name is PINAYSINSHOWBIZ. Did he really expect me to tweet ONLY the Pacquiao-Margarito fight? Besides, why the hell is he following me? And why is he reading my tweets if he only cares to read about the Pacquiao fight? So I replied to him.

@jazz2slick Excuse Me?? Don’t tell me what I should tweet abt. Don’t follow me then.. Ass!

His reply:

@PinaysInShowbiz i’m not following you my dear.

OK, so he’s not following me. So how in the world was he able to read my Tweets? I ‘m not following him and the only way I was able to read his “mention” of my Twitter is when I checked the “mentions” section.

@jazz2slick Well I’m not following you either.. Who The Fuck are you telling me not to tweet abt certain things coz you only care about the Manny Pacquiao tweets.. I’m sure Twitter is loaded with it already so why bother read my tweets? Hellllleerrr!

And he came back with this:

@PinaysInShowbiz is this how you pinays are? All cursing and stuff? Nice one to represent your country. i got no time to fight with you bye

Now that really pissed me off. Who the heck is this guy, seriously? What, a Pinay can’t cuss? Way to represent a country? So coz I cussed at him for being an ass, rude and stupid for not thinking about the name of the Twitter account, I’m not representing my country in a nice way?.. Puhlleaazzeee.

@jazz2slick LOL.. Puhhlleeasseee.. This Pinay will kick your ass and proud of it. So get used to it. And Yes, go, dumbass!

I am proud to be a PINAY. A PINAY who can defend herself and not let some male chauvinistic pig tell her what to do, EVER. The Twitter account is called PINAYSINSHOWBIZ, that means I will be tweeting about what’s going on in showbiz. That’s what I was doing yesterday. There was an award show, celebrity sightings, celebrity news, and mentions of the fight.

How was I supposed to represent the Philippines which I haven’t lived in for years? Was I supposed to apologize to him for twitting about celebrity news and not about Pacquiao? Was I supposed to say “Yes Sir, and you are right?” And of course, he went for the typical elitist crap that some Pinoys utter when confronted by a strong individual, a woman at that.

@PinaysInShowbiz great breeding right there :)

Some Pinoys are so obsessed with putting distinctions among themselves by introducing the “breeding” word in an argument to prove that they’re better than everyone else. I guess a Filipina like me who says strong words and would point out what an asshole he is has no “breeding.” An ignorant and typical defense from pa-sosyal wannabes who think they’re the shiznits because they speak trying-hard conyo-English.

@jazz2slick whatever.. LOL.. typical!

So yeah, while Pacquiao was beating Margarito to a bloody pulp, I was also in a fighting mode on Twitter with this dickhead who came out of nowhere telling me what to do in a social network where practically the whole world population was talking about the Pacquiao fight. Like it was such a sin for a twitter account called PinaysInShowbiz to tweet about what it was created for in the first place. Maybe I reacted angrily, but I stand by my words. I am a PINAY who can kick his ass and Proud of it. If that’s not a good PINAY representation of the Philippines then that’s their problem, not mine! And if calling out  his stupidity instead of bowing my head and acquiesce to his request speaks of my “breeding” then I am proud to be in that class of  “breeding.”

He messed with the wrong PINAY.

3rd Payment From PayU2Blog

After losing the problogging jobs I loved so much from that network I’d rather not mention coz I think I’m still heartbroken about it, I decided to look at other options online. Besides blogging, I know there is money in advertising. I applied to a few, got accepted, did some jobs and 1 of them never paid me. Blog Advertising Store still owes me $113. Scammers!

One place I joined quite a few times was PayU2Blog. I wasn’t accepted the first time. Neither on the second time. For the 3rd time last May, I decided to try again and told myself, eh, you never know. A few days after that 3rd try, I finally got the e-mail that said I was approved. A few e-mails here and there, and then I sent in the necessary tax documents. Then I received my first blog opportunity. The process was really quick once you’re approved. My first payment was $5 because 1 opp made it just on the pay period. My second payment was higher. $90, woohooo. That’s $5 for each opps. My 3rd payment was today which totaled to $60. So YES, PayU2Blog works.

What I love about it is I that the assignments are freeform so I can easily incorporate my opps into my daily life. There are probably specific product review opportunities but I haven’t gotten those yet. Hopefully someday. The pay is scheduled bi-weekly so it helps a lot in having that extra cash every 2 weeks for groceries and such. This blog is the only blog under PayU2Blog for now. I have 30 more days (I think) to add my other blogs in their system. I hope they’re approved as well. Cross my fingers. And I hope to get more assignments from The Sheriff. The more I get assignments, the more I discover how much I’ve missed blogging A LOT. Plus the payment of course but if you’ve known me for years you know that I could blog and blog and blog, so bring on those assignments :) .

Oh Hi Self, Where Have You Been?

Oh nowhere, just here, busy, doing, nothing! Every time I tell myself, “I need to blog there, I need to blog there”, I get lazy and do something else instead. I’m not avoiding this blog, it’s just one of those things when I’ve got so much stuff running in my head that I wanted to write about but I get a writer’s block once I finally get to it. So yeah. I’ll be back tomorrow. I hope, hehehe. :)

Remember When You Used To Build A Website?

djw-ss I finally had time to update my portfolio site, DexieJaneWharton.com, this weekend and it probably only took me about 2 hours or so. It would have been shorter if not for the screenshots. It’s been a long time since I did a WYSIWYG site with the help of Dreamweaver. These days, WordPress is the quintessential format for everyone to go to when building anything online. I run a lot of blogs under WordPress but when it came to my portfolio site I opted to use the old school Dreamweaver when I realized that branding is important for my identity in the problogging world a couple of years ago. Although I’m mostly functioning under the umbrella of  “FeistyMomma” and “Feistycook”, just like anyone in the problogging community, it’s nice to own your name as a domain. It’s an accepted form of narcissism, heh :) .

Getting The Pink Slip, Twice. Or Was That 4 Times?

Last month I was part of a mass-firing that happened with a blogging network I’ve worked for since 2007. I lost 2 jobs from that. Last week, I was once again part of another mass-firing from the same network for the remaining 2 problogging jobs. So yes, try getting fired 2 times in a matter of weeks.

I got mad, even cried coz the jobs I lost were practically my “babies”. I was also sad for my colleagues. We didn’t just lose our jobs, we lost our sense of community as well. But the truth of the matter is, that sense of community went missing when some changes happened a year ago. Interestingly enough though, that community is now back because like they said, there’s always a rainbow after the rain.

As for me, after taking the time to react as calmly and professional as I could and reflect on the whole situation, I had to do something. Looking for new opportunities was the first step. Doing job searches on a web directory is part of the first step. Fortunately, there are a lot of free web directory out there that helps out in searching for blogging jobs. From Google, I found the Blogging Jobs twitter which posts various blogging and writing job opportunities online. Another place I’ve been searching at is of course the Yahoo directory. I’ve discovered from these directories that  there are a lot of opportunities there waiting to be clicked and considered. My former colleagues and I are also helping each other out by passing along any information we could gather in our searches along the way. We’re all experiencing the same thing and taking this new journey in our lives one day at a time so.

We may have gotten our pink slips twice, thrice, 4 times, 5 times, or more (1 blogger usually have 3 or more topics they write for), in a manner which leaves a sour note, but we are driven, knowledgeable, and hard-working people so we’ll definitely be fine. Most of us have now  ventured into striking on our own by building our own blogs. Nothing is going to keep us down. This whole experience has empowered us to strive for something better and greater with our head held high. So Watch Out Folks…… :)

January Best : NaBloPoMo Day 1

new-office-31 So, a new month, new year. Can you believe it’s 2010? About the title, well, I decided to sign up for NaBloPoMo’s monthly blogging spree. This personal blog of mine has been a recipient of neglect in the year 2009. I figured I’d go back to being a blogging fiend again here by challenging myself. What’s more challenging than joining a blogging theme wherein the main rule is to blog everyday for a particular month. NaBloPoMo actually had this set up for a month of November which I’ve participated in twice. I’m not sure when it exactly happened but they decided to do it every month from then on. This time though, they’ll have a theme for every month which makes sense in order to make this blogging initiative a more inspiring one, so to speak.

I want to start my 2010 in a good way so what better way to do it than joining the NaBloPoMo’s January theme which happened to be the “BEST.” So here I am, starting the new year off with blogging everyday for the month of January. And I will try my darn BEST to write about the BEST things that’s happening in my life or whatever else I could think off under the theme BEST.

Wish me luck and hope you’d keep me company everyday. :)

PS: That’s an old picture of my office. I have a bigger monitor now. See it here.
