What Is The Right Age For A Kid To Stop Wearing A Halloween Costume?

2 years ago, when my son was Mario for Halloween, was the time we told him to be his last year of wearing a Halloween costume and trick-or-treating. I mean he could still accompany his sister and be part of the merriment of it all but we figured it was time to let the little ones take first dibs on houses with candies and chocolates wearing their cute or scary costumes. But then last year, we decided, OK, 1 more year. So my talented and artistic husband turned our son into a zombie.

Hubs did the makeup really well and my son gamely played his character too when I took the pictures. This year he could walk along with his sister and father while they go around the neighborhood trick-or-treating. I’ll be left at home giving out candies. He’s really not happy about not wearing anything for Halloween. I am kinda feeling guilty about that but yah know, we figured there has to be a cut off limit for kids. Like when you tell tell them Santa is actually Dad, and Easter Bunny is just someone in a Bunny costume scaring little kids in the mall, unintentionally of course, so the parents can have pictures of their children with the Easter Bunny. I am proud to say I never subjected my children to that commercialism, Heh! We didn’t tell him all of that about Easter Bunny of course. Just that he’s not real, short gist of it all. We try not to be too cynical all the time.

Puzzle Time W/ Tinkerbell

tinkerbell-200-pieces-puzzle1

One of the birthday gifts my daughter received was a 200-piece puzzle of Tinkerbell. So she and I started working on it until Spots started biting the mesh from her dress. She got so irritated she  left me with the puzzle alone.

I had a hard time doing the edges. I didn’t expect the pieces to be so small. Although if this was a puzzle of one of the picturesque views of  branson real estate at pinnshores.com, I probably would have a harder time with the size of the puzzle pieces.

Recycle & Be A Frugal Fashionista

Tomorrow is my daughter’s 5th birthday. I’m depressed. Next thing I know I’ll be thinking about 30th birthday presents for her. Thankfully, that’s still a long way to go, but you know what they say, time flies really fast. But before that happens, I gave her a lesson on recycling and how to be a frugal fashionista, especially in this economy.

I turned 4 of her old pair of jeans into play shorts. There are only 3 in the picture coz she already wore the other one. A tan brown pair. She watched me cut the jeans yesterday and then when I gave her the 1st pair, her look was priceless. Like I’ve just lost my mind, again.

Photo Frames Update

I was looking at the wall gallery in the living room and I got the urge to upgrade the pictures in the picture frames. I want to get some new frames too not just for the walls but in the kids’ bedrooms as well.

name-photo-collage

I want a name collage frame for both Caine and Emma. Although my son is probably too old for it. It’s always been easy to find stuff for Emma coz her name is one of the most common girl names in the world. But I actually want her complete first name which is Emma Lyn. Yes, there’s a space in between those 2 names. Her middle name on the other hand is my Mother’s name. Something like that frame above would be great for her 5th birthday. I could place it in the door that way she’ll know which room to sleep in at night. Hopefully anyway. It would be fun to put  a collage of pictures of her 5 years, while spelling out her name.

Sesame Street Memories

sesamestreet-romperWhile going through a bunch of old pictures of my son the other day to pick a few shots for a 13th yr old birthday collage I was making, I came upon a lot of pictures where he was wearing Sesame Street clothes. Oh how he loved the little monsters down there. He had everything Sesame Street imaginable. From sesame street pajamas for babies, clothes, toys, books, videos, costumes, you name it, he owned it. His most favorite characters were Elmo and Ernie. He wasn’t particularly fond of Cookie Monster though but he tolerated him as much as he could.

I loved his Sesame Street Halloween costume which was a huge hit in the neighborhood during trick or treat night. He was definitely adorable in his countless sesame street pajamas too. If he could’ve lived in theme probably would have. I ‘m reminiscing on all these after seeing all the cute Sesame Street merchandise online. I love the personalized jammies showing letters and monster faces in the bold primary colors that Sesame Street characters are recognized by. I’m thinking of getting a pajama set for Emma in time for her birthday with either Elmo or Grover coz they are her favorites.
