Reminiscing Time

My son is turning 14 next week, Wednesday to be exact. So here I am looking at old pictures, reminiscing, and thinking where I’ve done wrong in raising him. Kidding on the latter, haha. Well, you know, I think every parent go through that thinking stage almost everyday. I saw this old picture of him playing a keyboard. He really loved that. I think even I learned how to play children songs those years too so we could maximize having a keyboard in the house. As years went by though, he never really showed interest in learning more so we took that as a sign that playing instruments is really not his thing. We tried guitars and drums throughout the years but he’d only show interest for a few months then after that it was back to drawing. He’s really more into art, graphics, games, and all that techy stuff. He still has a keyboard in his room though and he’d play once in a while. There’s also some game in Nintendo DS which teaches you how to play piano so he does that sometimes. I would get him one of those Suzuki Keyboards for his birthday if he’s really really into music like that but being a good parent also means accepting what your child is really not into and just support and help cultivate what he likes to do.

SO TRUE!!

THIS TOO, HAHA!

A Little Fishing, A Little NC History

Last Friday was the husband’s day off and the last day of my son’s 1-week Spring Break off so we decided to check out a place called Howell Woods. It has a few ponds for fishing, a small place with owls, snakes, and turtles, a HUGE area to walk around in to enjoy the nature pretty much. Other activities like horseback riding, camping, geocaching and hunting can be done as well. No golfing though so you probably won’t see custom printed golf balls during a long hiking trek.

After that, went to a small place to educate ourselves about the civil war in North Carolina. It was really cool to see 100+ years old stuff that were they used during those times. I wanted so bad to enter the Harper’s House which is 200 years old but it didn’t open at the time it said it will open. We’ll just go back to it sometime coz we were told there are a lot of exhibits inside the house that would tell more stories. It would be really cool to see all of that.

Meanwhile, check out our picture from the family day…

Saturday’s Dinner. This Is Life

They never had the chance, heh. I got the Spinach & Feta pizza for free from Domino’s Facebook promo. It’s pretty good. I’ll have to write more about it in my foodblog next week. Since I only got 1 free pizza and judging by the pictures and TV commercials I knew the pizza is really not that big, I made pork lo mein to go with it. Here’s a recipe of a beef version of the lo mein. Just replace beef with pork, and use baby carrots instead of broccoli, and add napa cabbage instead of shitake mushrooms.

For dessert, I made flan(no cream cheese). Bear in mind, I made it early on today to cool in the fridge for hours in time for after dinner dessert. Flan is always better after spending time in the fridge.

So what’s your Saturday Dinner?

I Love Winning An Argument, Don’t You?

It feels really good to win an argument. Especially an argument with someone who’s got a one-track mind most of the time. And someone as feisty as I am. It is such an accomplishment in my daily mundane life. Winning makes me feel like I’m worth every breath I take on this earth. Like the tuna-popcorn argument I had with my feisty daughter.

Ems: Mommy, tuna sandwich and popcorn.

Mom: Just tuna sandwich for lunch.

Ems: NO, tuna sandwich and popcorn, pleaassee..

Mom: STAR tuna sandwich.

Ems: STAR tuna sandwich??

Mom: YUP

Ems: :D

POINT 1 goes to Mommy!

Katniss & President Barbie Dolls

I used to be an avid doll collector. Somehow along the way I grew up? Umm, not really. Along the way I decided I should save my money, HAHA. Collectible Dolls are like $40-$60 a piece, $30 if you’re lucky, and $25 for random dolls, $18.99 if they’re on sale. I used to have the complete Disney Princesses dolls too but situation got tough years ago so I had to sell them on Ebay. I still have a couple of Disney Princesses Christmas dolls though, thank goodness. Marilyn Monroe, Lucy, and some Victorian Ladies are now in my daughter’s toy bin. I held on to them for as long as I could but any Mother of a toddler knows that it’s hard to fight a little girl who wants to play with dolls. At some point, I said, “Why are they in the box anyway? Just let your daughter play with them, it’s not going to kill anybody so get over it.” THERE!

Then a week or so ago, I saw in my Facebook timeline the Toy Xplosion post on I Can Be President Barbie Doll. The inner child/doll collector within me got excited.

I mean look at that pink suit! Somehow, someday, I will have this doll.

Our Easter Sunday 2012

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday. We had a great one in the family. We got up at 7am so we’d make it on time for the 9:30am Church service. It was one of the few times we were actually early for Church. I mean early like we stayed in the car at the parking lot too early. We weren’t rushing like we used to, haha. Progress baby, progress.

After Church, we went home then the kids got their Easter baskets. After a few minutes I gathered everyone outside for Easter Sunday pictures to send my mother-in-law. Since we were all in our Sunday’s best, I told everyone to take a few seconds to smile for Nanny. Then after that, I got the pot roast set up in the crock-pot for our Easter dinner while Daddy scattered the eggs around the yard. I kinda went overboard with the eggs that he almost ran out of place to hide them. Then we went out to hunt the eggs. By God’s graces, we were able to find all the eggs. Then we all got chocolate-coma. Those Cadbury eggs are soooo good. I love those. We also ate some of the dyed boiled eggs that Emma and I made on Saturday night. I can’t remember anything else after that coz I fell asleep in the couch. I woke up just in time for dinner.

Gosh Darn It, Where’s The Purple?

We had a bit of a setback here. I didn’t think those eggs were ever going to be dyed tonight and for the love of colorful eggs, how could I have not known that there were no purple tablet in the kit? She’s in a purple fix right now so purple this purple that, “Daddy, where’s my purple crayon”.. purple purple purple.

That’s why her nose in those pictures is too red. She just had to have a breakdown for 30 minutes before we could start. Sure why not. It’s not like I was going anywhere anyway…
