August 2024 Reads

My August reading plan started off calm and quite cozy with those two books on top, “Highlander’s Captive” by Mariah Stone and “The Lilac House” by Barbara Josselsohn. And then I discovered Portia Moore‘s “If I Break” series. I became wrecked, broken, and practically shattered. It was a a roller coaster ride of emotions during Summer most definitely. If anything, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you read Portia Moore‘s “If I Break” series. I cannot express it enough how great the books are. Portia Moore is now one of my favorite authors, EVER!

Highlander’s Captive by Mariah Stone: 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (Slightly similar to Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. If you’ve read the Outlander books and have watched the TV series then you’d be familiar with lingos, names, locations, and settings.)

She must return to her time. He keeps her heart captive.
While chaperoning a high school trip to the Scottish Highlands, Amy MacDougall descends into Inverlochy Castle dungeon. Deep in the crumbling ruins, she touches a magical rock and travels through time to 1307.

Infiltrating the castle, Highlander Craig Cambel imprisons Amy. A MacDougall, she’s his clan’s sworn enemy. But when he’s forced to marry the fierce beauty, he surrenders to desire. Amy needs to return to the twenty-first century, but her feelings for Craig are growing stronger every day. Will the pull of centuries divide them, or can destiny bind them across the ages?

It’s the year 1307, and she’s the enemy.(SOURCE: GOODREADS)

The Lilac House by Barbara Josselsohn: 4⭐⭐⭐⭐

Can one summer house bring two broken hearts together?

Summer escapes to Lilac House have always been a source of comfort for Anna Harris. Though things will never be the same since her husband’s death, she knows that it is there, nestled in Lake Summers in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, that she and her children Zac and Evie can begin to build a new life.

The house is just as beautiful as Anna remembers, and caught up in the rhythm of small town life, helping her Aunt Hope run the little shop on Main Street, Anna begins to feel a sense of herself she hasn’t felt in years. Then she meets Aidan. Handsome, strong and quiet, he also knows what’s it’s like to lose someone. In each other they recognise something they’ve both been missing and they feel a spark.(SOURCE: GOODREADS)

If I Break” by Portia Moore. 10⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5!

It starts with WRECKED, then in between novella Before I Break, followed by ALMOST BROKEN, then Beautifully Broken, and ending with Shattered Pieces. Read the series in this order.

OMG!! 😱 WRECKED made me angry and frustrated. I even told my husband one night, “this book is making me angry 🤬.” I was ready to give it an average 3⭐️. But, I also couldn’t put it down. I had to find out wth is going on. I had to finish it. The huge twist in the end,😱😱🤯🤯. In summation, I was WRECKED!

My husband would ask me at night, “Are You Okay?” and I’d be like, Yeah but really, I’m not 🤦🏻‍♀️ because of Portia Moore 😬. I devoured all her books and as emotional and angry her stories made me, I’d feel lost when I finish all of them 😥💔. I cannot specifically tell you what the story is all about because it is important that you go through all the emotions of anger & frustration to understand the crux of it all. The build up makes you want to throw the book at the wall but the cliffhangers are eye opening and will haunt your days until you get to the next book. All I can say is it starts with Lauren & Cal…. then Chris…….. Highly recommended 10 out of 5 stars.
