Have You Made Shepherd's Pie Lately?

Ingredients
  

MASHED POTATOES
  • 5-6 large potatoes peeled and quartered
  • water for boiling
  • 1 stick butter
  • a dollop of sour cream
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • sprinkle of garlic powder
  • sprinkle of salt & pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese
FILLING
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 sm onion chopped
  • 1 stalks celery chopped
  • sprinkle of garlic powder
  • sprinkle of salt & pepper
  • 1/2 bag frozen carrots and peas
  • 2 tbsp flour

Method
 

MAKE THE MASHED POTATOES
  1. Boil the peeled and quartered potatoes until soft. Drain the water. Add butter, milk, sour cream, garlic powder, salt & pepper. Mash everything together. Set aside.
  2. When it's time to assemble the pie, combine the shredded cheese and mashed potatoes.
MAKE THE FILLING
  1. Heat up oil in a pan. Sauté onions and celery. Add the ground beef. Cook and stir until browned.
  2. Discard as much grease as you can. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper seasonings.
  3. Add the frozen peas and carrots. Stir and cook for 5 to 8 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour. Stir the whole thing together a couple of minutes then turn the heat off. (I learned this step from AllRecipes: https://bit.ly/3lnLjGg
  5. Let it cool for a little bit.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°, Transfer the meat filling into a pan.
  7. Carefully spread the mashed potatoes on top.
  8. Bake it in the oven for 20-25 minutes.
