Pork Tips & Potatoes In Brown Gravy Stew With Rice

Ingredients

  • 1-2 pounds pork (sliced in chunks)
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 2 tsp sea salt (or regular salt)
  • 2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tsp dried thyme
  • 2 tsp powdered mustard (optional)
  • 2 tsp garlic powder & herb seasoning
  • 4-6 tbsp flour
  • 2-3 tbsp saved bacon grease (or vegetable oil)
  • 3 medium potatoes (peeled & cubed)
  • cooked rice (or crusty bread)

Method

  1. Assemble the team.
  2. Season the pork with salt, garlic powder & herbs, ground mustard, dried thyme, and chili powder. Mix them all together.
  3. Stir in the flour to coat the meat.
  4. In a cup, mix together water and brown gravy mix. Set aside.
  5. Heat up bacon grease(or oil) in a pan. Brown the pork for 3-4 minutes. Do this in batches if you have a lot of pork.
  6. Place half of the brown gravy mix into the crock-pot. Add the browned pork into the pot. Pour some of the gravy mix into the pan then whisk the bits and juices together. Add the whole thing into the crock-pot. (Refer to the video) Then pour the remaining gravy mixture from the cup over the pork.
  7. Cover the crock-pot. Set it in low and cook away. I started this at 10am
  8. 4 hours into cooking, add the cubed potatoes. Continue cooking until potates are tender, about 3 more hours or so, or about dinner time.
