Have You Made Shepherd’s Pie Lately?

If you haven’t made Shepherd’s Pie lately then here’s your quick nudge to gather the ingredients and make it soon. It’s always a hit in our family so I hope it becomes a hit with yours as well. There’s no complicated steps. The mashed potatoes need to be made ahead but the rest is just sautéing and a bag of frozen peas & carrots will make it even easier and quicker to make. So here it is.

Ingredients
  

MASHED POTATOES

  • 5-6 large potatoes peeled and quartered
  • water for boiling
  • 1 stick butter
  • a dollop of sour cream
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • sprinkle of garlic powder
  • sprinkle of salt & pepper
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese

FILLING

  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 sm onion chopped
  • 1 stalks celery chopped
  • sprinkle of garlic powder
  • sprinkle of salt & pepper
  • 1/2 bag frozen carrots and peas
  • 2 tbsp flour

Instructions
 

MAKE THE MASHED POTATOES

  • Boil the peeled and quartered potatoes until soft. Drain the water. Add butter, milk, sour cream, garlic powder, salt & pepper. Mash everything together. Set aside.
  • When it's time to assemble the pie, combine the shredded cheese and mashed potatoes.

MAKE THE FILLING

  • Heat up oil in a pan. Sauté onions and celery. Add the ground beef. Cook and stir until browned.
  • Discard as much grease as you can. Stir in the garlic powder, salt, and pepper seasonings.
  • Add the frozen peas and carrots. Stir and cook for 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Sprinkle flour. Stir the whole thing together a couple of minutes then turn the heat off. (I learned this step from AllRecipes: https://bit.ly/3lnLjGg
  • Let it cool for a little bit.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°, Transfer the meat filling into a pan.
  • Carefully spread the mashed potatoes on top.
  • Bake it in the oven for 20-25 minutes.

Let it cool for 5 minutes or so before serving.
