Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo is raising awareness on the unfortunate plight of the Ate community in Bohol wherein the people’s lands are being grabbed by private properties. They need help in understanding the legalities of land ownership. Rabiya posted a contact person and number for anyone who has the means and capacity to help.
A few months ago, I was able to talk to the chief of tribe of the Ati community in Bohol. What makes me drawn to them is that we speak the same language Hiligaynon before they are also from the island of Panay. My heart was shattered hearing their lands were grabbed by private people because they have no idea about the legalities of land ownership. This is the harsh and sad reality.
We need to protect them. We need to fight for them.
