#AUTISM: Doing Laundry

More basic life skills learnings with EmmaBoo. I started teaching her about doing her laundry 2 years ago. Admittedly, I’m not consistent about it but I’ll try harder in the coming days. The thing is, I’m the “I’d rather do it myself” type of person so I forget that I need to get Emma in a routine to do her laundry herself every week. So yeah, that is something I’ll have to work on myself. As far as Emma knowing the step by steps and operating the washer & dryer, she’s good with that. She just needs to be reminded when to do it and that is of course my responsibility as her parent, in terms of consistency as I’ve already mentioned.

This quote from Dr. Temple Grandin posted by Autism Parenting Magazine is a good reminder of how it is important to teach our children under the spectrum the skills they need for the future.
