Marian Rivera is among Esquire PH’s 9 Heroes and Mavericks for 2024 “Man At His Best” awards. Marian is hailed as “Actress of the Year” for her socio-relevant poignant and timely portrayal of Teacher Emmy in the Cinemalaya film BALOTA which earned her the Best Actress award for 2024.
I quite agree with what Esquire said that calling Marian’s success from 2023 MMFF movie, REWIND, opposite her husband Dingdong Dantes, and then from BALOTA, as her second wind is dismissive of the power of Marian Rivera. This is not considered as her second wind or second prime because Marian Rivera never disappeared. She figured out her schedule to prioritize her family but she’s ALWAYS been around and still on top thanks to her many endorsements, social media presence, and position as the GMA Network’s Primetime Queen. INDEED, “This is Marian Rivera simply being Marian Rivera.”
Marian Rivera is having a very interesting year. Rewind, a Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 movie alongside real-life husband Dingdong Dantes, became the highest-grossing Filipino film of all time with a reported P1.2 billion ticket sales gross. Then, she bagged the Cinemalaya Best Actress award for the 2024 film Balota.
To call this a second wind for the actress, however, feels dismissive of the power of Marian Rivera. This isn’t a second wind; this isn’t her second prime. This is Marian Rivera simply being Marian Rivera.(ESQUIRE)
