Kara David And Ivana Alawi Tied In “Best Host Public Service Award” From FAMAS
Kara David and Ivana Alawi tied in the “Best Host Public Service Award” from the recently concluded FAMAS for Broadcast Arts. NOT a lot of people are happy about that.
Netizens feel that it’s disrespectful to Kara David’s years of work as a journalist and credibility in investigative notable documentaries and news programs. Without taking anything away from Ivana’s contribution in helping people out through her massive and successful YouTube vlog and influence, netizens do have a point.
Here’s my .2cents worth of opinion (if every one gave me .2cents for opining I might have a full $1 at some point, but not today. 😆)
I think there should be a distinction in niches/genres. Dapat may broadcast arts (public news programs & television shows) tapos may separate categories ang New Media which consistst of Vlogger, Content Creators/Influencers, and Podcasts. Lumping them all together negates the kind of work that goes on in putting a show that Kara David, her team, and colleagues in News departments do. There’s a lot of fact-checking, field work, dealing with logistics, politicians in some topics, and understanding the subject matter. It’s just a completely different world, specialty, or niche.
I’m not saying Ivana doesn’t deserve her accolades but let’s get real here. She’s able to do her “Public Service” because of her YT views, FB engagements, and talent fee from brands and companies in whatever products she’s promoting and is affiliated with. It’s noble of her to Pay It Forward of course and frankly she doesn’t actually need to do any of that but she’s a good person doing good stuff to help people. NO ONE is ever denying that. Is it in the same category of what Kara David, Jessica Soho, Atom Araullo, Vicky Morales, et al does, is the question.
Even if we say it’s just the “HOST” category. Again, is it in the same league/caliber like the aforementioned?
I don’t know if my point is coming across clearly, but I hope you get a sense of it. Congrats to Kara and Ivana but IMO, there needs to be separation and distinction between the kind of work journalists do and what vloggers do. That’s All! (Just to reiterate, I’m NOT minimizing Ivana’s generous heart.)
